Language? Spanish is the official language of the Dominican Republic. However, most speak English.

Currency?  The Dominican Peso (RD$) is the official currency of the Dominican Republic. Exchange rate at www.xe.com/ucc.  Major credit cards and travelers' checks are accepted everywhere; ATMs are located throughout.  Most businesses accept dollars and euros.

Time Zone? (UTC/GMT -4) Dominican Republic is one hour ahead of EST in the Fall/Winter and is the same as EST in the Spring/Summer.

Drinking water? Not safe, as the water is not purified.  Always drink bottled water (even though Casa de Campo filters water)!

Tipping?
Tipping is not required and many of the services offered, such as food & beverages at a restaurant, include a service charge of 10% in the price of the items, or this charge is added onto your final bill. If you receive good service, tip cash directly to the provider.
